How to Register
- Register online through the NY DMV website
- Download and mail a voter registration form from the Board of Elections
- Register in person at your county Board of Elections, DMV, or other agency offices
Voter ID Requirements
Accepted Forms of Identification
- Voters provide their signature, which is matched against their registration record
- First-time voters who registered by mail without providing ID may need to show: driver's license, state ID, Social Security card, paycheck, government document, or utility bill
What if I don't have ID?
New York uses signature matching rather than photo ID. If your signature cannot be verified, you may cast an affidavit (provisional) ballot.

New York allows any registered voter to request an absentee ballot. Applications must be received by your county Board of Elections at least 15 days before the election if mailed, or can be applied for in person up to the day before the election.
