How to Register

  • Register online at the Michigan Voter Information Center (MVIC)
  • Mail a completed voter registration form to your local clerk
  • Register in person at your local clerk's office, Secretary of State branch, or designated agency
  • Same-day registration is available at your local clerk's office with proof of residency

Voter ID Requirements

Requirement:Photo ID requested (not strictly required)

Accepted Forms of Identification

  • Michigan driver's license or state ID
  • Federal or state government-issued photo ID
  • U.S. passport
  • Military ID with photo
  • Student ID with photo from a high school or accredited institution in Michigan
  • Tribal ID with photo

What if I don't have ID?

If you do not have photo ID, you may sign an affidavit affirming your identity and vote a regular ballot. You do not need to cast a provisional ballot.

Early Voting & Absentee / Mail-In Voting

No excuse required

Michigan has no-excuse absentee voting. Any registered voter may request an absentee ballot. Applications can be submitted online, by mail, or in person at your local clerk's office. Ballots must be received by 8:00 PM on Election Day.
